AP Lang Reflection

I think this class has been a great experience. Before this year, I had never really used moodle as a communication tool to discuss various topics with my classmates. I think this is a great utilization of technology to further classroom discussion. I especially thought the Morals and Science topic was an interesting subject, and the TED talk video with it was really fascinating.

This quarter we have done vocabulary assessments that are more time consuming then the quizzes we took last quarter. However, this new way of doing vocabulary has helped me actually learn the words in depth.

I am not at all a huge fan of Shakespeare, but I thought the Tempest unit was painless enough.

I have also thoroughly enjoyed my outside reading novel, Candide, by Voltaire. It’s not exactly an uplifting story, but I enjoyed Voltaire’s style of writing, because it is different to anything I have read before. Looking ahead, I think I am going to read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell for my third quarter outside reading assignment, because I read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, and I really found all the connections he made fascinating.

The synthesis essay was not a favorite of mine, it reminds me too much of the DBQ essays from AP Euro and AP US, and I thought I would be rid of DBQs for life after those classes, but alas, here they are in some mysterious form in AP Lang.

Generally speaking, I like the texts we are reading a lot more than the ones we read in AP Lit because they have been written recently and are a lot more focused on either current issues or philosophical things.

All in all I think AP Lang has been a pretty good class.
